RSC WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM WINS FIRST EMPIRE 8 CHAMPIONSHIP; GATORS POST 2-1 OVERTIME VICTORY OVER UTICA ON KLOSTERMAN PK

Albany, NY — Russell Sage College women's soccer team won the program's very first Empire 8 Championship title on Saturday night as they defeated Utica College, 2-1. The victory came at 96:37 as junior forward Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) scored her second goal of the night on a penalty kick. The Gators wrap their 2021 spring season with a record of 5-2, while Utica drops to 2-3-3.

Utica scored the first goal of the night rookie Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) scored on a break away at the 41:12 mark to spot the Pioneers to a 1-0 halftime lead. The goal was her third on the season.

RSC's tied the action as Klosterman scored on a pass from senior midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) at 64:13 to tie the game. The score was knotted at 1-1 at the end of regulation with a one-one score.

After a hand ball call was called in the box, Klosterman was awarded the penalty kick and she pushed the ball to the left corner for the game-winner and her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Klosterman was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament for her outstanding performance over the course of the tournament as she had two goals, a game-winner and an assist in the team's semifinals victory.

RSC's sophomore keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) collected the win as she turned away three shots with a goal allowed. She wraps the spring with a perfect 5-0 mark in goal. Utica's junior Emily Hill (Watertown, CT/Watertown) made nine saves on the night. For the tournament she made 37 saves in three games.

RSC, which started the 2021 Spring Soccer Season on March 17 with a 2-0 win over Utica College, wraps the season with a 2-1 win on April 17 for their first-ever Empire 8 Championship title in any sport.
