Marszalek scores two to lift Gators past Purchase, 3-1
Albany, NY---
The Sage Colleges women's soccer team hosted Purchase College on Saturday in a Skyline Conference match. Sage would record the 3-1 win to improve to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the league, while Purchase falls to 4-6-1 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Sage's junior forward Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) added two goals to lead her team to the win on Saturday. Marszalek gave Sage a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the match at 18:34. Rookie Emily Dooley (Cropseyville, NY/Berlin Central) recorded her first goal of the season as she connected for a goal at 27:11. The Gators lead 2-0 at the half.
Purchase spoiled Sage's shutout bid as senior midfielder Marisa Corson (Vestal, NY/Vestal Senior) connected on a feed from sophomore Abigail Katz (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) at 76:00.
Marszalek gave her team an insurance goal as she connected for her team-leading sixth goal of the year at 81:04. She now has six goals and an assist this year for 13 points. She has 35 career goals with 76 career points, both of which are No. 2 on Sage's career women's soccer record book.
Sage's senior goalie, Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) tallied eight saves in the match for the win, while Purchase's freshman goalie Kristen Racaniello (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) had nine shutouts.
Sage returns to action on Sunday, October 10 hosting NYU-Polytechnic at Albany Academy for Girls in a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference. Sage will hold their second annual Pink Game as a fund raiser for the to Life Organization.
