
Panthers top Gators 63-54 in women's basketball action
Old Westbury, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to SUNY-Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference contest. The host Panthers posted the 63-54 victory to improve to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the league, while the loss puts Sage at 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the Skyline.
Sage held a 25-21 lead at the break, but fell victim to the Old Westbury as they held a commanding edge on the boards, 59-35. The Gators posted a strong shooting performance in the second stanza, hitting 55.9% of their shots from three-point range.
Leading the way for Sage was junior guard Erica Houle (Latham, NY/Shaker) as she had 17 points off the bench after connecting for five three-point baskets. Gator rookie Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) added 10 points with five rebounds for the Gators, while sophomore guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) finished with seven points and six rebounds. Sophomore center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had four points with a team-best nine rebounds and a season-best six blocked shots.
For Old Westbury, Clarissa Gallagher has a game-high 22 points, while DeAndra Scott had a double-double with her 13 points and 17 rebounds.
The Gators will be back in action January 24 when they travel to Mt. St. Vincent College for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference contest.
