Gators Draw St. Lawrence for the NCAA Tournament
Sage men’s soccer has drawn St. Lawrence for the first round of the NCAA tournament in the program’s first NCAA selection.
INDIANAPOLIS – Sage men's soccer has drawn St. Lawrence for the first round of the NCAA tournament in the program's first NCAA selection.
The Gators travel to Canton, NY to play the Liberty League Champion Saints on Sat. Nov. 14 at the Sally MacAllster Field at 11:00 a.m. The University of Scranton will face UMASS-Boston also on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and the winners will meet Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sage goes into the tournament with a 13-3-3 record after winning the program's first Skyline Championship. The Gators are led by Skyline Coach of the year Kyle Clancy (65-38-11) in his sixth season at Sage.
The Gators are led on defense by senior goalie TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) and junior defensemen Kyle LeClerc (Beacon, NY/Beacon) and Luis Teran (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) Zehner has set five career and four single-season records in Sage history, and has been an All-Conference selection three times. The senior captain is nationally ranked in save percentage (21st, .867). Tethering the defensive line are LeClerc, a two-time Skyline Defensive Player of the Year, and Teran, an all-conference selection and captain. The Gator defense is currently nationally ranked in shutout percentage (4th, .68), shots-on-goal/game (21st, 9.42) and team goal-against-average (31st, .66).
In the midfield, Sage has looked to Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill), Alex Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill)and Paul Reynoso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley). Sean Lanza, a captain and all-conference selection, became the first Gator to be named the Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship. Alex Lanza and Reynoso have been leading Sage in the assist category with five assists a piece and have combined for 12 goals on the season. Alex Lanza currently ranks third in career assists (11) at Sage.
Up front, the Gators have been led by River Seybolt (Seldon, NY/Longwood) and Peter Fabrykiewicz (Delancey, NY/Andes). Seybolt, the Skyline Rookie of the Year, leads the team in points (23) on nine goals and five assists. He is on pace to set four single-season records in his freshman campaign. Seybolt currently ranks 10th in the nation in game-winning goals (5.0). Fabrykiewicz, an all-conference selection and last year's team MVP, has recorded 21 points on nine goals and three assists. The senior ranks 3rd in career goals (19) and 4th in career points (45) after two seasons with the Gators.
The Saints (14-3-2) earned the automatic bid with a 3-1 win over Skidmore in the Liberty League Championship on Saturday and will be making their 20th appearance in the national tournament; the first under Head Coach Mike Toshack.
St. Lawrence will also play host to Scranton (10-6-2) and UMass Boston (16-4) in the other first round match.
The winners of the two first round games will meet on Sunday Nov. 15 for the second round of the NCAA tournament at MacAllaster Field.
