Strong Start Propels Gators to Road E8 Win

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Visiting Russell Sage College outscored Keuka 20-6 in the first quarter on its way to this afternoon's 62-34 Empire 8 Conference win.
Junior guard Olivia Huneau (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) equaled a career-high with 15 points to help the Gators pick up their first conference victory of the season.
Junior guard Malena Gereau (Schroon Lake, NY/Schroon Lake Central) contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while junior guard Gwen Eichen (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) added nine points on 3-of-5 shooting, also tying a career best.
The Gators limited Keuka to a 25.5 field goal percentage in the Saturday matinee. Junior guard Angelina Schaefer (Latham, NY/Shaker) and sophomore forward Aniyah Kelley (New Castle, DE/William Penn) spearheaded the RSC defensive effort. Schaefer led all participants with nine rebounds and three blocks, while Kelley, who tallied eight points, blocked a pair of Keuka shots and secured four caroms.
Junior guard Caiden Crego paced the Wolves (1-10/0-3 E8) with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting.
Looking ahead, RSC (3-10/1-3 E8) begins a three-game homestand on Friday at 5:30 pm vs. Elmira.
Gator Bites: RSC made its second-consecutive appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals last season…Nine players returned from the team…They joined four newcomers to make up this year's roster…Head coach Allison Coleman began her tenth season at the helm with an overall record of 136-84… Sophomore guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City) started the weekend leading RSC with a 13.5 scoring average, good for fourth in the E8.
