SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Field Hockey opened their season on Saturday at Union with a 9-0 loss to the Garnet Chargers.
Junior defender Alexis Olen (Woodstock, NY/Onteora) registered a defensive save in the opening day effort.
Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), who was third in the country in saves per game as a freshman with 14.60, stopped 14 Garnet Charger shots on Saturday afternoon.
Union had four different players register a pair of goals as they picked up their third win of the season.
The Gators (0-1) return to the turf on Wednesday for their home opener as they host Ramapo.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The fall marks the second with Carissa Warren leading the Gators…She arrived to Albany from two-time defending Empire 8 Conference Champion Hartwick…RSC goalkeepers were busy last fall, leading the NCAA Division III with 15.81 saves per-game…On an individual level, rookie goalkeeper/midfielder Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) totaled 146 saves across ten games played at goalie,14.60 per-game, good for third in the country…Junior midfielder Cheyanne Zobel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who opened the autumn with a program career record 17 assists, and Brand highlight the nine returning Gators…Zobel, a two-time third-team All-Empire 8 Conference selection, commenced the campaign ranked fifth among RSC players with 35 career points…Warren added six new players to this year's squad.
